Mrs. C. won’t let me post the video from last Saturday’s training, so I’ll have to wing it to recapture some of the highlights of the day. (She thinks we need a real video camera – and I won’t argue the point…) (more…)

This message is not intended for anyone in the current STARS program, either as a current student or volunteer.

It is directed to our gentle readers and potential volunteers who are still “on the fence.”

Should I volunteer or not?

Stacey Jordan, Dream Blue Prints

Stacey Jordan, Dream Blue Prints

On January 31, we wrapped up National Mentoring Month with the STARS quarterly meeting.

We were able to hear from Stacey Jordan, a motivational speaker who spoke to the Woodland students last fall.  Stacey challenged us to look through the four panes in the window to success.

HAND - What’s in your hand? We need to try and identify our Talents, Skills, and Abilities.

VALUABLE - Where are you valuable? Where do you have passion AND gifting? What makes you cry? What do you love to talk about? These questions help you identify where your passion is to try and match it with your talents and skills that you have in hand.

SEED DREAM - What is your seed dream? What can you begin doing today to use your value and build on your value.

REACH - What’s in your reach? What can you do right now with what you have right here to bring you a little closer to your dream?

There is alot more information on Stacey’s site:  http://www.dreamblueprints.com/

Mr. Stacey Jordan of Dream BluePrints will be presenting at our quarterly meeting.  The students had the opportunity to hear him earlier in the fall and he was phenomenal.  He will be presenting to the mentors some of what he did at the speaking event and work with you on how to incorporate this into your time with the students.  I am very excited to have him with us on Jan. 31st.   Mr. Jordan has some very motivational and inspiring  things to share with us, things that we can apply to our own lives as well.

This will also be an opportunity for some of the new mentors to meet some of our seasoned mentors and share ideas, struggles, successes etc.  It will also be an opportunity to celebrate you a STARS mentor for everything you do.

The meeting will be from 8:30 to 12:00 .  For planning purposes and making sure we have enough food and materials, I need to know yes or no as to you attending no later than Thursday, Jan. 22nd.  Once again, I would strongly encourage everyone to be in attendance as it is not very often that we are able to have someone of the caliber of Mr. Jordan presenting.  If you want to find out more about him, his website is www.dreamblueprints.com.

The Computer Corner, also referred to as the STARS computer lab :) , is expanding. Another computer has been added. The latest one was donated without an operating system (it didn’t have Windows) so it has been set up as an open source machine using Linux Ubuntu as the operating system.  It has some software that is not on any of the other machines in the way of educational and office programs.  If you’d like to check out an alternative to Windows and see what kind of software is available for free, check out the new system in the corner.
