Relay For Life a success June 29, 2010

We were a big part of Relay For Life of Laurel over the weekend of June 12 – 13. Two van loads of students and supplies headed out into the heat on Saturday afternoon to be part of an overnight walk to help raise money and awareness about cancer and its victims and survivors here in Woodland and across the globe. The Woodland STARS team had 5 cancer survivors (and not just from the volunteers – two are students and one is on staff.)

We were not able to stay all night since Mrs. C. was sick, but we Were able TO BLOW PAST TWO DIFFERENT FUND-RAISING GOALS. We set an initial goal of $2,500 for the team. When were getting close to that goal, we decided to try for $2,800. As a team we raised OVER $3,000. The Relay has made $88,000 so far and is still accepting donations through the web site.You can still donate at the Laurel Relay site.
Congratulations to everyone – tonight it’s Pizza Party Time. We’ll be having pizza for the team in the STARS room at 6:00.

Tomorrow (January 19) there will be an off campus mentoring event. Students and mentors will meet at the Greene Turtle in Laurel for the kick-off off the 2010 Relay For Life of Laurel. Woodland STARS will once again have a team (our third year!!!) and Tuesday is the kick-off. (more…)
