2009 (A year for Change) + January (National Mentoring month) = NOW (the time to become a mentor and change the future.)
Make your New Year’s Resolution one that will make a difference in our future – today’s youth!
STARS – “Speakers, Tutors, Achievement, Retention, Success” is an award winning mentoring and tutoring program in Laurel, Maryland. We need additional volunteer mentors and tutors to continue reaching the future. STARS serves, “at promise” motivated youth, 16-24 that want a successful life. Tutors are needed for math and literacy skills in preparation for the GED. Tutoring is one-on-one Monday and/or Thursday 3:45 to 5:15. Mentors are positive role models & friends that help with vocational, academic, and life skills development. STARS has more than doubled in size over the past year, because of the fantastic work of our current volunteers. We currently have students waiting for tutors and/or mentors. Training & support is provided. Contact Gloria Coliton, at (301) 362-6045 or e-mail coliton.gloria@jobcorps.org to find out more about this exciting program.
